Oklahoma Primary Set for U.S. Senate Runoff Decision

Voters in Oklahoma will decide today between two candidates who are new to the political scene. Nurse N’Kiyla Jasmine Thomas and attorney Jim Priest compete for the Democratic nomination to challenge Rep. Kevin Hern (R) in November’s election.

In the initial crowded primary held in June, Thomas emerged with over 45 percent of the votes, leading the field. However, she fell short of the majority needed to secure a decision without a runoff. Her opponent, Jim Priest, garnered nearly 24 percent of the votes, positioning him as the second choice among the five candidates.

This pivotal runoff vote will determine who will face the Republican representative in the upcoming general election. With both candidates bringing new perspectives to the table, the decision today will shape the Democratic ticket moving forward.
