Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the opening of an investigation into possible official “negligence” following a devastating drone strike on a warehouse situated near Kyiv. The incident led to a massive explosion, killing at least 27 people. Official regulations state that ammunition must not be stored near homes or residential areas, which raises questions about compliance. Zelenskyy shared his concerns in a social media post.
The attack resulted in significant damage. Tymur Tkachenko, head of the local regional military administration, reported that at least 50 residential buildings sustained damage. The drone strike ignited a large-scale fire, affecting not only homes but also businesses, including a restaurant.
Among those killed was Taras Didych, head of the Dmytrivka community, who was actively involved in rescue efforts. President Zelenskyy promised thorough reviews and appropriate conclusions.
The prosecutor general’s office announced that the drone struck an enterprise in Myla, causing a fire and subsequent detonations. Their investigation will target the legality of storing explosive materials and whether the enterprise had required permits. The company involved was not named.
Prime Minister Sergiy Koretsky expressed regret, referencing a similar incident in July. That attack near Kyiv damaged a munitions depot and highlighted serious compliance failings by the state-owned company responsible. The proximity of residential areas presented clear safety risks.
