Musician and Family Murdered in Mexico City Suburb

A tragic incident has unfolded near Mexico City where musician Jonathan Meléndez, his pregnant wife, their 3-year-old daughter, and the family’s nanny were found shot dead. They were discovered in a residential building in Zona Esmeralda, Atizapán de Zaragoza, according to the State of Mexico Prosecutor’s Office. An unharmed 6-year-old boy was also found at the scene.

The victims included Jonathan Meléndez, a 38-year-old music producer and composer, his 35-year-old pregnant wife, their young daughter, and a 21-year-old nanny. Meléndez was associated with the Mexican band Camilo Séptimo, which confirmed his death via Instagram, stating, “We will always remember Honas with immense love and gratitude.”

“Today we honor and celebrate his life, his music, his light and the time shared with those of us fortunate enough to know him,” the band stated.

Authorities indicated that two of the victims were found bound, with gunshot wounds to the head. The fourth victim was shot in the back. The killings are believed to have occurred on Tuesday, September 1, between 5:30 p.m. and 7:40 p.m. Two men, Diego Sebastián “N” and Gerardo “N”, have been arrested in connection with the murders.

A statement from the Prosecutor’s Office revealed one of the suspects was an “associate” of Jonathan Meléndez, exploiting a relationship of trust to access the residence. Omar García Harfuch, Mexico’s secretary of security and citizen protection, emphasized the prompt coordinated response of the authorities.

“Given the gravity of the crime, the institutions acted immediately and in a coordinated manner,” Harfuch stated. “The two suspects are now in custody and will be brought to justice.”
