A tragic incident occurred on Chicago’s South Side, involving a young child and a firearm. On Friday afternoon, a 9-year-old boy shot a 13-year-old boy, resulting in critical injuries. The event took place in the Fuller Park neighborhood, specifically on the 5200 block of South Wells Street.

The shooting happened inside a residence where the 9-year-old had access to a firearm. He fired a single shot, hitting the 13-year-old in the shoulder just after 4 p.m., according to information from the Chicago police.

Emergency services responded promptly, transporting the injured teen to UChicago Medicine. He remains in critical condition due to the gunshot wound he sustained.

Police recovered one handgun from the scene, and area detectives are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. The investigation aims to uncover how the child accessed the firearm and any other relevant details.
