Police Alert on Kratom with University of Mississippi Student Deaths

Two students from the University of Mississippi have passed away. Local authorities discovered packaged kratom products during separate investigations related to these deaths. Though no definitive link between kratom and the fatalities has been established, officials have issued alerts to the public. Efforts to prevent overdoses are being expanded by campus, local, and state authorities as investigations continue.

The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office is handling two distinct death investigations and has not uncovered evidence suggesting any connection between the cases. Packaged kratom, bought from a local store, was found in both investigations. However, investigators have not confirmed whether kratom or any other substance played a role in these deaths.

According to reports from WMC Action 5 News, public safety teams responded to Stewart Hall on the Ole Miss campus around 1:30 p.m. on Monday after a suspected overdose was reported. CPR was administered to an unresponsive individual. Details on the second student’s death remain scarce.
