A recent Gallup poll reveals that 71 percent of Americans show approval for labor unions, approaching a record high. However, the Bureau of Labor Statistics highlights a contrasting picture, with only 10 percent of American workers belonging to labor unions, nearing a historic low. “It’s crucial to note that Gallup’s survey didn’t question respondents on whether they wanted to personally join a union. This might explain some of the gap in approval versus membership,” an analysis suggests.
Gallup’s findings from 2022 showed a similar pattern. Although the approval ratings for unions remained steady, an additional inquiry revealed a lack of interest in joining among nonunion workers.
