Warmington Secures Democratic Nomination Amid Controversy

Cinde Warmington secured the Democratic nomination for New Hampshire’s gubernatorial race, running unopposed in the primary. This marks her second attempt to capture the governor’s office. Her campaign faces challenges due to her past legal work with Purdue Pharma, the company accused of contributing to the opioid crisis with its drug OxyContin.

The Republican Governors Association (RGA) criticized Warmington’s linkage to Purdue, citing it as disqualifying for her gubernatorial candidacy. They pointed to allegations that her legal work with Purdue contributed to the public’s opioid addiction problems.

Warmington responded to these criticisms by clarifying her limited engagement with Purdue. She stated, “In 2001, as an attorney, I was assigned a case to represent Purdue Pharma. At that time, I fought for patient access to necessary healthcare, unaware of Purdue’s fraudulent activities.” She declared the allegations against her as unfounded.

Prior to this gubernatorial run, Warmington served on New Hampshire’s Executive Council, representing the 2nd district from 2021 to 2025. Her previous campaign in 2024 ended with a loss to Joyce Craig, who later lost to Republican Kelly Ayotte. In this 2026 campaign, Warmington emphasizes addressing the rising cost of living, criticizing the current administration for not doing enough.

Her platform aligns with Democratic priorities, opposing Trump’s policies on immigration and promising housing reforms. Additionally, Warmington pledges not to implement a sales or income tax. She aims to present a viable alternative to the incumbent governor, Kelly Ayotte, in the upcoming election on November 3.
