The NFL season is underway, with excitement building for the first Sunday Night Football game. This week, NFC East competitors, the Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants, clash at the Meadowlands. The Cowboys’ potent passing attack meets the Giants’ young talent.
The Cowboys’ receivers, CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens, are expected to dominate headlines. However, the Giants have their own star receiver, Malik Nabers, who may play a crucial role. Nabers suffered an ACL tear last season, threatening his participation in the season opener.
On Tuesday, Giants fans received encouraging news. The team released receiver Darius Slayton, hinting at Nabers’ recovery progress. Giants reporter Jordan Raanan shared his thoughts on social media, suggesting positive news ahead for Nabers.
“Consider this informed speculation on my part on Malik Nabers,” Raanan said. “Seems to be trending in a positive direction.”
ESPN’s Dan Graziano echoed this optimism on “Get Up,” stating the Giants’ staff was pleasantly surprised by Nabers’ recovery this summer. “It sounds like he’s going to be good to go for Sunday night, which is massive for the Giants,” Graziano added.
Nabers was a Pro Bowler in his rookie year. Though limited to four games in his second year due to injury, Nabers recorded 18 receptions for 271 yards and two touchdowns. If he played all 17 games, projections suggest he could achieve 1,320 yards, 114 catches, and eight touchdowns.
There’s caution as Nabers hasn’t been seen in full-speed action post-injury. His impact remains uncertain, but Sunday night might offer clarity.
