By September 11, 2026, a federal jury in Los Angeles acquitted Grammy-winning Chicago rapper Lil Durk in a murder-for-hire plot. The plot targeted another rapper, and Durk, whose real name is Durk Devontay Banks, faced multiple felony counts. These included charges of murder, stalking, and conspiracy. The charges involved members of Lil Durk’s rap group from Chicago, “Only the Family” or “OTF.” A jury found Durk not guilty of all charges.
Two co-defendants tried alongside Durk, Deandre “OTF Dede” Wilson and David “Browneyez” Lindsey, were convicted of stalking and stalking conspiracy charges but were acquitted of murder-for-hire.
Federal prosecutors alleged that Durk plotted to kill Atlanta rapper Quando Rondo, whose real name is Tyquian Bowman. Rondo was the intended target of a 2022 shooting, which resulted in the death of his cousin, 24-year-old Saviay’a Robinson, near the Beverly Center in L.A. The shooting was seen as retaliation for the murder of Chicago OTF rapper King Von in Atlanta.
Authorities claimed that Durk allegedly offered a “bounty” for killing Rondo. Keith “Flacka” Jones, one of those charged, pleaded guilty to Robinson’s murder and testified against Durk and his co-defendants. Kavon “OTF Vonnie” Grant also pleaded guilty and testified against them.
Durk received the 2024 Grammy Award for Best Melodic Rap Performance for his single “All My Life” featuring J. Cole. He has had three other Grammy nominations. Had he been convicted, Durk potentially faced a life sentence.
