Despite predictions, the Cardinals started strong, upsetting the Los Angeles Chargers with a 26-14 victory on the road under new head coach Mike LaFleur. This win marked a significant achievement, as the Chargers were an AFC Wild-Card team last year and are viewed as potential playoff participants this season.

Mike LaFleur’s debut broke a notable streak for Arizona. He became the first Cardinals head coach to win his debut since Don Coryell in 1973. ESPN’s Adam Schefter noted LaFleur’s accomplishment, highlighting how 13 previous Cardinals coaches failed to win their first game.

The Cardinals face another test in Week 2 against the Seattle Seahawks, the defending Super Bowl champions. Seattle may miss starting quarterback Sam Darnold due to injury, yet backup Drew Lock rallied the Seahawks to a 13-10 victory over the New England Patriots in Week 1.
