The Seattle Seahawks encountered challenges both on the field and during pregame ceremonies on Monday. The evening began with a logistical mishap involving four UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters from the U.S. Army’s 2nd Battalion, 158th Aviation Regiment, performing a flyover at Lumen Field. Unfortunately, these helicopters were nearly struck by fireworks due to a timing error. The fourth helicopter had not yet cleared the stadium when the fireworks ignited, resulting in a close call.
This pregame incident seemed to set the tone for the Seahawks’ disappointing 34-17 loss to the Chicago Bears. Seattle’s defense struggled significantly, allowing the Bears to score 34 points, the most given up by the Seahawks all season. Bears quarterback Caleb Williams managed to throw for 237 yards, breaking Seattle’s streak of preventing quarterbacks from surpassing 200-yard passing games in the first seven weeks.
The Bears offensive total reached 363 yards, 62 yards more than any previous game this season. Seattle’s defense wasn’t the only unit experiencing difficulties; the Bears blocked a field goal on special teams and restricted the Seahawks to 252 yards of offense, marking Seattle’s second-lowest output this season.
The challenges on Monday extend beyond gameplay as Seattle also faced difficulties during their pregame fireworks. Seahawks fans witnessed a night they would prefer to forget altogether.
The Seahawks, now sitting at a 4-4 record, find themselves in a precarious position. Eight games after their Super Bowl victory, they are currently outside the playoff picture. Seattle will aim for recovery as they prepare to face the Arizona Cardinals (3-5) this coming Sunday at 4:25 p.m. ET.
