Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Adjust Children’s Schooling Amid Security Concerns

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have relocated their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, to a new school in the United Kingdom. This decision came after only two days at their previous school, following security concerns raised by their team. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex withdrew Archie, 7, and Lilibet, 5, due to challenges in safely managing the school commute.

A spokesperson for the Sussexes explained that discussions with the family’s security team led to this decision. They expressed gratitude towards the staff and teachers for their care and support. The decision was not a reflection on the school or the quality of care the children received.

According to HELLO! Magazine, heavy traffic and the distance from the family’s residence contributed to the security concerns. Sources mentioned that the children enjoyed their first days at school, but logistics for the security team proved challenging. One particular incident made it difficult for security vehicles to remain coordinated, underscoring the need for a change.

Following the withdrawal, Archie and Lilibet attended a taster session at another local school. Harry was seen helping Lilibet settle into her new reception class, while the Sussexes joined parent WhatsApp groups, as reported by HELLO!

Security challenges remain a key issue for the Sussexes, particularly following their return to the UK in August after living in California.

Since stepping down as working royals in 2020, Harry and Meghan lost automatic police protection. Harry challenged this in court, contending his family faces risks in the UK. Although his appeal was denied in May 2025, recent developments renew debates over their security needs.

Meghan Markle has received her first government-backed security review since stepping down from royal duties. The Royal and VIP Executive Committee (RAVEC) is evaluating the couple’s security and daily arrangements, including travel to school. Harry is undergoing a separate risk assessment, requiring them to share details of their routines.

The timing of the school change coincides with these security reviews, which may influence British authorities’ evaluation of their needs.

In August, the Sussexes announced an extended stay in the UK with Archie and Lilibet, marking a shift from their life in the United States. Their return raises questions about merging their desire for privacy with their lifestyle in Britain.

While they remain private about their move, King Charles III’s office reiterated that Harry and Meghan are non-working royals without HRH styles, with security operations directed to police authorities.
