Mahomes showed precision in his performance. However, it was Kansas City’s recent acquisition, Kenneth Walker, who stole the show. Following his Super Bowl LX MVP performance, Walker impressed with 191 total yards and two touchdowns. His efforts surpassed Denver’s offensive output for the night.
The Chiefs started strong, gaining momentum quickly when rookie cornerback Mansoor Delane intercepted Broncos quarterback Bo Nix on Denver’s opening drive. Mahomes took advantage, securing a touchdown run. Walker further extended the lead with significant gains, including a 60-yard rushing touchdown in the second half. He became the first Chiefs player to exceed 140 rushing yards and score a touchdown in a game since 2017.
Denver struggled offensively. Under the guidance of new offensive coordinator Davis Webb, the team failed to match the level of play set by their opponents. After a single touchdown pass from Nix to Evan Engram, the Broncos went scoreless, leading to repeated punts before halftime.
Despite a brief opportunity in the third quarter, when safety Brandon Jones intercepted a Mahomes pass, Denver could not capitalize, settling for a field goal instead. Subsequent errors, including a Nix fumble, allowed Kansas City to solidify their lead with another touchdown pass from Mahomes to Walker.
On a notable side, Travis Kelce broke a significant milestone during the game. A 59-yard reception marked him as second on the NFL’s all-time receiving yards list for tight ends, trailing only Tony Gonzalez. Kelce ended the night with 71 receiving yards.
In the stands, Taylor Swift joined by Tom Cruise, added to the evening’s spectacle. She cheered for Kansas City, highlighting her support for the Chiefs throughout the game.
The Chiefs have asserted their dominance in the AFC West once again, while the Broncos are left to strategize for improvement.
