The Major League Baseball season is reaching its climax as teams enter the final phase before playoffs. The Chicago Cubs and Chicago White Sox are closely vying for playoff spots, each navigating distinct paths in this competitive journey.

Cubs’ Playoff Push

The Cubs are positioned second in the National League Central. Their record stands at 83 wins and 67 losses as of Monday. The Milwaukee Brewers are leading the division and are on track to secure their fourth consecutive title. The Cubs have a magic number of 9 to clinch a wild-card spot, while their elimination number for the NL Central title is 2.

In the NL wild-card race, the Cubs hold the top spot, tied with the Phillies, and lead the Padres by 1.5 games. The Diamondbacks are in contention as well, trailing the Padres by 2.5 games.

The Cubs last advanced to the playoffs in 2025, entering as the top wild card. They defeated the Padres in the wild-card series but fell to the Brewers in the division series. Historically, the Cubs have made 22 postseason appearances, earning eight division titles, four wild-card berths, 17 pennants, and three championships.

A standout player, Pete Crow-Armstrong, is on a remarkable run, aiming to become the seventh player in MLB history to achieve 40 home runs and 40 stolen bases in a single season. He currently has 41 home runs and 36 stolen bases. Notable past achievers of this feat include Barry Bonds and Alex Rodriguez.

White Sox in a Tight Race
