1 hour ago 0

Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves commented on Ole Miss’s victory after the Rebels defeated LSU. The intense matchup marked Lane Kiffin’s return to Oxford, and the game lived up to its high expectations.

During the third quarter, LSU rallied by scoring two touchdowns, narrowing the gap to three points. They managed to tie the game with a field goal early in the fourth quarter. However, Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss scored on a 14-yard run with 6:14 remaining on the clock. The team then added a two-point conversion, extending their lead to eight points.

Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves expressed his thoughts on the outcome on social media. “What does a $54 million buyout for the old coach, a $91 million contract for the new coach, and a $50 million roster get you? An a-s whipping in Oxford, Mississippi!” he wrote.

Reeves referred to Kiffin’s transition from Ole Miss to LSU and the Tigers’ offseason roster development. The statement was part of ongoing trash talk between the teams during the week.

As Kiffin returned to Vaught Hemingway Stadium, he faced a cold reception from fans, including boos and unfavorable gestures. After the game, he commented on the emotional nature of the contest, acknowledging the life-changing moments and support he received during his time at Ole Miss. He congratulated Ole Miss on their deserved win, acknowledging their strong performance.

Chambliss highlighted the significance of the victory, noting its importance compared to other collegiate games he participated in. He expressed relief that the emotionally charged game concluded successfully.

With the victory, Ole Miss is expected to surpass LSU in the upcoming AP poll rankings. The Rebels currently rank No. 8 nationally, with LSU positioned at No. 7.
