Senator Bernie Moreno Urges DOJ to Address Drug Policy Enabling Forced Abortions

Senator Bernie Moreno from Ohio is drawing attention to a shocking incident, urging the Department of Justice (DOJ) to intervene and prevent similar occurrences in the future. He claims that a policy from the current administration led to a tragic event affecting one of his constituents.

Hassan Abbas, a physician, faced sentencing this month for fraud and using deception to obtain a dangerous drug. Prosecutors asserted that Abbas acquired abortion pills using his estranged wife’s identity, later administering them to his girlfriend, a former patient, against her will. The woman, who expressed her unwillingness to undergo an abortion, claimed that Abbas forced the pills upon her.

I write to you today, Attorney General Blanche, to respectfully request that you do everything in your power to ensure this depravity never happens again to a woman and their unborn child, Moreno stated in a letter shared with Fox News Digital.

Moreno attributes responsibility to mail-in policies from the Biden administration. These arrangements permit the mailing of abortion pills, a factor he believes contributed to the incident. Abbas’s ability to acquire the medication remotely circumvented previous stipulations requiring in-person dispensing at clinics, medical offices, or hospitals.

The Supreme Court is engaged in a legal battle regarding broader access to the abortion pill mifepristone. The current situation persists as Louisiana challenges the FDA’s stance in court, contending that the agency unjustifiably relaxed dispensing requirements.

Senator Moreno advocates for the DOJ’s rapid involvement in resolving the case. He calls for reinstating the in-person dispensing requirement while the FDA continues its safety review of the drugs. Abbas’s sentencing includes six months jail and two years probation, an outcome Moreno finds inadequate.

Moreno is urging the DOJ to reconsider federal charges. He questions the minimal consequences for a crime he views as severely reprehensible.
