A promissory note outlined the payment terms which Brooks was alleged to have ignored. Consequently, he faced a legal obligation to pay $130,386, an amount contested by Brooks on various legal grounds. Despite his challenges, the court ruled in favor of Wiley.

Reilly Richardson, a spokesperson for the National Republican Congressional Committee, criticized Brooks, suggesting his actions showed self-interest. As Brooks moves forward in his campaign, he faces scrutiny from opponents and voters in Pennsylvania.
