Comedian Bill Burr, during a recent interview, raised questions about the responsibilities of healthcare companies in response to violent incidents. He commented on the case involving the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. Burr said that instead of enhancing personal security, companies should reevaluate their policies that might provoke extreme actions. Burr remarked, “You’re not the president. You’re just the CEO of a business. Why do you need this level of security?”
Brian Thompson, a family man, was murdered in December 2024. Luigi Mangione admitted in federal court on August 14 to killing Thompson. Attorney Rafael Mangual criticized Burr’s comments, interpreting them as endorsing violence to express frustrations. Mangual emphasized, “Brian Thompson was a victim of a cold-blooded murder.” He questioned Burr’s understanding of broader legal and ethical boundaries regarding such violence.
Burr, previously known for his politically incorrect humor, has acknowledged changes in his comedic approach. He reflected on his past perspectives regarding women, admitting he had missed out on positive experiences due to his previous views. Burr shared, “My whole view on women is changed now. I look back on all of the dumb stuff that I said. It had nothing to do with how I felt.”
The comedian shared that his journey involved shifting from blaming others for his missed opportunities to understanding his own role in those situations.
