President Trump’s Visit to the Presidents Cup in Medinah

President Trump visited Medinah Country Club on Sunday for the final day of the Presidents Cup, acting as honorary chairman. His presence drew both supporters and protesters in the Chicagoland area.

The president’s arrival was marked by a flyover above the country club, occurring about ninety minutes before the players began their rounds. He briefly addressed reporters at O’Hare before traveling to the tournament, where opposing groups demonstrated outside.

‘Giving the message that Trump is not welcome here in Illinois, in Chicago, in Medinah, in Addison – all of our neighborhoods,’ stated Allison Galvan, executive director of Grito Latino Addison Community Center Inc.

Terry Newsome countered with, ‘We want to give a voice and say, “Not everybody in Illinois is a radical leftist”.’ Local police maintained order, ensuring safety while the groups expressed their views.

Inside Medinah Country Club, Trump’s presence focused security on the first tee box area, allowing for controlled management. Carolyn Friedrichs remarked on the unique experience of interacting with the Secret Service.

SWAT teams surrounded the fairways and tee box grandstands, where fans underwent TSA-style screenings. Friedrichs noted, ‘I’m surprised it’s not even more heightened. I think there’s still free range, so it wasn’t that bad.’

The president, addressing thousands, spoke briefly, emphasizing the focus on golf rather than speeches. He stated, ‘Our country is doing great, better than ever before.’ Following his remarks, Trump greeted players and watched them tee off for over an hour.

A bulletproof suite had been prepared for Trump, yet he chose not to use it. Bruce Asmussen, attending the tournament, remarked on the energetic atmosphere, enjoying the final day’s excitement.

This marked Trump’s first public Chicago appearance since the 2024 election. Organizers noted the extensive planning required for the event. Carolyn Friedrichs expressed enthusiasm about the presence of both good golf and the president.

Trump decided to stay for the closing ceremonies of the Presidents Cup. Air Force One was scheduled to depart from O’Hare Airport, heading back to Washington, D.C., later that evening.
