DHS Warns Migrant Caravan Heading to U.S.-Mexico Border

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) issued a stern warning to a significant migrant caravan moving through Mexico with the aim of reaching the U.S.-Mexico border. DHS informed Fox News about the close monitoring by the United States Border Patrol (USBP) in coordination with international partners.

“USBP reminds migrants that under the leadership of President Trump and Homeland Secretary Mullin, the border has remained closed and secured for the last 16 months,” DHS stated. As of Monday, the caravan consisted of hundreds of individuals from Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador, Ecuador, and Haiti. The caravan began its journey in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, on September 20.

On October 1, 2025, migrants from various countries, including Hondurans, departed from Tapachula, Mexico, aiming for Mexico City. DHS emphasized to migrants that attempting the journey to the U.S. border is futile, stressing the end of “catch and release” policies. According to DHS, “Biden’s disastrous open border policy has been SEALED SHUT.”

The USBP underscored that anyone trying to cross into the U.S. illegally will face apprehension, prosecution, and removal. This statement comes during a heated midterm election cycle where the Trump administration’s firm stance on illegal immigration is a focal point for political debate.

President Donald Trump mandated widespread deportations and nationwide crackdowns, contributing to historically low levels of illegal immigration since his inauguration. Migrants like José Zelaya from Honduras, traveling with his family, expressed aspirations for better economic opportunities in the U.S., as reported by the Houston Chronicle via EFE news agency.

Zelaya highlighted that the caravan lacks organized leadership, attributing “hunger and need” as key motivations for the journey.
