On Wednesday, a sixth arrest was made in connection with a shocking incident that occurred in Lafayette, Indiana, involving the shooting of Judge Steven Meyer and his wife, Kim, at their residence in January. The Lafayette Police Department confirmed the arrest of 23-year-old Nevaeh Bell, bringing new developments to the case.
Bell is facing serious legal repercussions, charged with 12 preliminary felony counts. Among these charges are two counts of attempted murder and a count of conspiracy to commit murder. Authorities took decisive action following a strategic, collaborative investigation that spanned multiple states, leading to prior arrests of five other individuals last month.
The suspects previously apprehended are Raylen Ferguson, 38, and Zenada Greer, 61, both from Kentucky, alongside Indiana residents Thomas Moss, 43, Blake Smith, 32, and Amanda Milsap, 45. Investigators allege these individuals, linked to a motorcycle club and a street gang, targeted Judge Meyer as part of a plot to obstruct a domestic abuse case involving Moss.
Moss, associated with the Detroit-based Phantom MC motorcycle club and having connections to the Vice Lords street gang, was facing multiple violent charges since June 2024. Court records indicated his trial was set for January 20, just two days following the attack on the Meyers.
“The suspects reportedly attempted to interfere with the legal proceedings by targeting Judge Meyer,” said Lafayette Police.
The attack resulted in injuries for both the judge and his wife; Steven Meyer sustained an arm injury, while Kimberly Meyer was injured in her hip. The couple experienced a terrifying moment when a shot was fired through their door after a suspicious claim about their dog led them to answer it.
In a statement, Kim Meyer expressed gratitude for the comprehensive investigation carried out by the Lafayette Police. She and her husband conveyed their strong trust in the ongoing efforts and appreciation for the support received from both the community and medical teams.
“The compassion and kindness shown to us by everyone have been overwhelming,” Kim Meyer stated. “We owe a great debt of thanks to the medical professionals who cared for us during this difficult time.”
Authorities continue to delve into the case, seeking to hold all responsible parties accountable for the violent act.
