Two drivers have initiated a class action lawsuit against Mercedes, alleging that the AMG logo on their car seats causes burns. The plaintiffs, Gabriel Lahijani and Karendeep “Karina” Bath, claim that the raised metallic AMG logo on the front seats of certain Mercedes AMG models can come into contact with the occupant’s upper back, neck, or shoulder. This design element has reportedly led to injuries.
The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court of California’s Western division, seeks compensation for medical expenses, pain, and emotional distress. It also demands that Mercedes remove the logo from affected vehicles. Mercedes-Benz has not yet commented on the lawsuit.
Lahijani, a resident of Los Angeles, leased a new 2026 Mercedes-AMG E-Class. On May 31, he suffered second-degree burns on his back while wearing a tank top. A certified dermatologist confirmed the burns, noting they were in the shape of the AMG logo.
Bath, from Chatsworth, California, experienced a similar incident six weeks later. Upon entering her parked vehicle wearing a sleeveless top, her shoulder touched the logo, resulting in a thermal burn. The logo-shaped mark became visible in the following days.
In a separate case, Mercedes-Benz and its parent company, Daimler AG, agreed to pay $149.6 million to settle allegations related to emission test manipulations. Between 2008 and 2016, over 211,000 diesel vehicles were allegedly equipped with software that altered emissions controls during testing.
