The Philadelphia Eagles made a decisive move after witnessing a single pass from quarterback Andy Dalton. In their Week 3 matchup against the Chicago Bears, Dalton entered the game when Jalen Hurts briefly left due to injury. At the time, the Eagles were trailing 7-0 in the second quarter and faced a challenging third-and-goal from the two-yard line.
Dalton, a three-time Pro Bowler, took the snap from the shotgun formation. Unfortunately, his pass was intercepted when rookie safety Dillon Thieneman anticipated and jumped the route. This interception proved costly for Dalton. By Friday, before the Eagles’ scheduled departure for London, the team decided to release Dalton.
Dalton’s brief tenure with the Eagles marked the sixth NFL team in his career. He initially started with the Cincinnati Bengals, where he spent the first nine years as a starting quarterback. Following his time in Cincinnati, Dalton played as a backup for various teams, including the Dallas Cowboys, Chicago Bears, New Orleans Saints, and Carolina Panthers. The Eagles, however, did not see Dalton start in any of their games.
In the aftermath of Dalton’s release, the Eagles promoted Tanner McKee to the position of backup quarterback. This move demoted Dalton from his role and eventually took him off the team entirely.
Throughout his career, Dalton has participated in 180 games, starting 169. He has accumulated a record of 84 wins, 83 losses, and two ties. His career statistics include a 62.6% pass completion rate for a total of 39,793 yards, 254 touchdowns, and 152 interceptions.
Looking ahead, the Eagles, with a 2-2 record, will compete against the Jacksonville Jaguars, who hold a 3-1 record. Their game is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. ET on Sunday in London.
