Georgia Holds Off Alabama for Victory After Controversial Penalty

1 hour ago 0

The Alabama Crimson Tide were close to clinching a dramatic win against Georgia. However, an untimely foul dashed their hopes. With over two minutes left in the game, second-ranked Georgia faced a third-and-2 on their own field.

Alabama’s defensive back, Dijon Lee, committed a critical penalty. Lee grabbed a Georgia player by the jersey and struck him in the face twice, resulting in a flag and an automatic first down for Georgia. Alabama, having no timeouts left, watched Georgia run out the clock.

Head coach Kalen DeBoer of Alabama expressed his frustration vehemently. DeBoer confronted Lee on the sideline, reportedly saying that the penalty ‘cost us the game.’ Lee initially resisted, but eventually accepted the reprimand.

This incident came after a sequence in which Alabama pursued a score. With over three minutes remaining, a controversial non-call on a possible defensive pass interference in the end zone left Alabama seeking justice. Following that, Alabama’s quarterback Keelon Russell was sacked, knocking the team out of field goal range and forcing them to punt.

Georgia capitalized on Alabama’s missteps, handing the Crimson Tide their first defeat of the season. The Bulldogs continued their winning streak, improving to 6-0.
