Troye Sivan’s 2023 album, Something to Give Each Other, signaled a significant shift in the Australian artist’s career. Singles like “Rush” and “Got Me Started” became viral sensations, earning his first Grammy nominations. The songs even inspired a spoof by Timothée Chalamet and boygenius on Saturday Night Live. Following this success, Sivan embarked on the Sweat tour with his friend and fellow artist Charli XCX amidst the buzz of “Brat” summer.
Despite these high points, Sivan reveals they did not fully reflect his personal experiences entering his late 20s. His forthcoming album, She’s the Best, allows space to explore his deeper, more somber emotions.
In a conversation with NPR Music reporter Isabella Gomez Sarmiento, Sivan discusses his journey. He shares how he honors influential women in his life and discusses his shift from polished pop to creating an “unsexy” album that represents his authentic feelings.
