Shannon O’Brien, former chair of the Montana Democratic Party, has endorsed independent candidate Seth Bodnar. This decision follows her resignation from the chair position, marking another Democratic shift away from their embattled party nominee, Alani Bankhead.
O’Brien expressed concerns about Bankhead’s positions. In a statement on MS NOW, O’Brien highlighted issues surrounding Bankhead’s stance on women’s rights, labor support, and poverty. These concerns have prompted O’Brien and others within the party to consider Bodnar as a preferable choice for the open Senate seat.
Bankhead, the Democratic nominee for Montana’s Senate seat, recently participated in a candidate forum in Whitefish. However, scrutiny from party members indicates a potential alignment gap with key Democratic values.
“There are real questions about Bankhead’s commitment to protecting a woman’s right to choose, her support of working people, and her views of people living in poverty,” wrote O’Brien.
This shift reflects a significant moment in the Montana Senate race, with implications for party unity and electoral strategy.
