Eric Trump endorsed calls for a Federal Communications Commission (FCC) investigation into a flawed story published by ABC News. This report concerned the Trump family’s business dealings with defense contractor Anduril Industries.
Senator Bernie Moreno from Ohio urged the FCC to examine the circumstances leading to the erroneous report on ABC News, a Disney-owned network. The initial headline falsely stated that Trump’s sons secured billions in Pentagon contracts following his election. The story was deleted without explanation but later republished with corrections.
Thank you @berniemoreno — can’t wait to participate!Eric Trump expressed on X.
Eric Trump criticized ABC News for allowing the inaccurate piece to circulate, deleting it without proper explanation or apology. He questioned the approval process for the story and whether disciplinary actions were taken against the author.
The original report wrongly implicated Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump in Pentagon-linked transactions. Moreno’s letter to FCC Chairman Brendan Carr demanded accountability and questioned ABC News’s adherence to its broadcasting responsibilities.
Moreno’s letter described the report as a political attack that required scrutiny. He emphasized the need to uncover who authorized the false publication, potential profit motives, and any violations of ABC’s obligations.
This response came after ABC News withdrew an article examining investments tied to Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr. The initial report asserted the Trump-associated companies received significant government contracts through venture capital firm 1789 Capital.
Moreno specifically criticized the misrepresentation of 1789 Capital’s investment in Anduril, which totaled about $50 million, not the alleged $2.5 billion. This amount was part of a broader fundraising round, mischaracterized in the report.
On Friday, ABC News republished a significantly corrected article, admitting errors regarding investments and government contracts. It clarified that Trump Jr. is not part of the firm’s investment decision committee. The new headline focused on a shipyard announcement and previous Democratic concerns about conflict of interest.
A 1789 source informed Fox News Digital that an ABC News journalist involved in the report defended it before its removal. According to emails, there were initial assertions from editors supporting the story.
ABC News has not provided comments on these developments.
