The Chicago Blackhawks have struggled without their star center Connor Bedard since the beginning of the 2026-27 season, following his shoulder surgery during the summer.
Reports indicate Bedard is preparing for his comeback to the Original Six team. ESPN’s Emily Kaplan notes that Bedard is expected to play against the Pittsburgh Penguins in the upcoming Tuesday game.
Anticipation is high for Bedard’s return, as he is widely regarded as the Blackhawks’ top player. His absence has been felt, reflected in the team’s challenging 1-5-0 start this season. The return of Bedard could be pivotal in helping the Blackhawks improve their performance.
Last season, Bedard was instrumental in the team’s offense, scoring 30 goals and assisting on 45, making for a total of 75 points in 69 games. His impressive play led to a five-year, $75 million contract extension with the team in July.
Throughout his three seasons with the Blackhawks, Bedard has played 219 NHL games, amassing 75 goals and 203 points. The current season marks his debut as the Blackhawks’ captain.
