Matthew Stafford Makes NFL History with Unique Touchdown Record

1 hour ago 0

During the ‘Monday Night Football’ game between the Buffalo Bills and the Los Angeles Rams, Matthew Stafford reached a remarkable milestone. The reigning NFL Most Valuable Player threw his 150th touchdown pass with the Rams, marking him as the sole quarterback in NFL history to accomplish 150 touchdown passes with two different teams, having played previously for the Detroit Lions from 2009 to 2020.

Stafford exhibited outstanding skill during the game against the Bills. He completed 40 of 54 passes for 383 yards, scoring three touchdowns. His performance included two touchdowns during a high-scoring fourth quarter, connecting with Puka Nacua and Davante Adams, alongside a second-quarter pass to Adams.

Despite Stafford’s historic achievement, the Rams ultimately faced a setback. They came close to triumphing over the Bills and improving their record to 3-2, but fell short in overtime. The clash at SoFi Stadium was thrilling, reminiscent of a potential Super Bowl scenario. The Rams, trailing 13-7 at halftime, rallied to score 27 points in the second half. This included Kyren Williams’ late fourth-quarter rushing touchdown, which forced the game into overtime.

After the Bills’ James Cook fumbled for the second time that night, Stafford positioned the Rams for a potentially decisive field goal. However, the Rams’ attempt was blocked by Buffalo, letting Josh Allen lead his team toward a game-winning 45-yard field goal by Tyler Bass, finalizing the score at 37-34.

Stafford’s record dropped to 2-3 for the season, which many initially considered disappointing for a team forecasted to be strong contenders in the upcoming Super Bowl. The Rams have been impacted by injuries early in the season, including Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett. Garrett, who joined the Rams through an offseason trade from the Cleveland Browns, was placed on Injured Reserve due to arthroscopic knee surgery conducted in mid-September. His return remains uncertain, happening ‘week to week.’ Sean McVay, the Rams’ head coach, expressed a focus on Garrett’s ‘return to performance’ rather than merely playing again.

With his recent feat, Stafford ranks among the elite quarterbacks. He currently holds the sixth spot in all-time touchdown passes, requiring over 70 more to surpass Brett Favre and claim the fifth position.
