Troy Aikman and Joe Buck, familiar voices in NFL broadcasting, were in the booth for the Week 5 ‘Monday Night Football’ game featuring the Buffalo Bills and Los Angeles Rams. On-air, everything seemed smooth, but reports suggest a disagreement occurred prior to the broadcast.
Joe Buck recently secured a new six-year contract extension with ESPN, solidifying his role as the voice of ‘Monday Night Football’. This contract extension, finalized last month, reportedly caused some tension with Troy Aikman. Aikman has yet to receive a formal offer for a contract extension.
Buck addressed the tension with a candid conversation before the broadcast, according to sports media insider Ryan Glasspiegel of Front Office Sports. Although they began with a heated exchange, the situation eventually calmed down.
Buck and Aikman share the distinction of being the longest-running broadcast duo in NFL history. Prior to their tenure at ESPN beginning in 2022, they partnered for 20 seasons at Fox.
They will next be seen for the ‘Monday Night Football’ Week 6 game between the Washington Commanders and the San Francisco 49ers.
