The New York Giants might see the return of their star quarterback, Jaxson Dart, during the playoffs if circumstances permit. Dr. Drew Burdi, a former college quarterback who is now a foot-and-ankle surgeon, discussed this possibility with OutKick.
“He’s a good player. So, I don’t know if they’ll rush him back. But in some situations, he could potentially return,” Burdi shared.
Jaxson Dart was seen on the sidelines at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, during a game against the Green Bay Packers on November 16, 2025. He underwent knee surgery on September 25, addressing issues with his meniscus, and MCL and PCL damage.
Though Burdi does not specialize in knee injuries, he warned about the dangers of rushing Dart back too soon, citing other athletes with similar injuries.
“In his situation, they’ll probably hold him out. His career isn’t worth risking for one season. Letting him heal is crucial, given his value,” Burdi emphasized.
Giants coach John Harbaugh initially confirmed Dart would sit out the regular season, suggesting a possible playoff return. The estimated recovery time for Dart is four to six months, marking January 25, 2027, as a potential return date. However, Harbaugh urged caution over Dart’s ambitious plans to come back for the playoffs.
“I think he tweeted about being back for the playoffs. That’s ambitious,” Harbaugh noted in October.
Currently, the Giants stand at 3-1-1, leading the NFC East. Despite challenges from division rivals, the Giants have hopes for a playoff spot. The Philadelphia Eagles, at 2-3, struggle with quarterback Jalen Hurts sidelined due to a blood clot. The Dallas Cowboys, also at 2-3, face issues with their defense, which ranks 27th in scoring defense.
The Washington Commanders, at 1-3-1, are dealing with poor game management. They face the undefeated San Francisco 49ers next.
If the Giants can secure more victories, they could lead the weakened division and dream of Dart’s return. They’re aiming to continue their momentum in a game against the 1-4 New Orleans Saints.
