Kyle Kennedy, granddaughter of Robert F. Kennedy and Ethel Kennedy, has passed away at the age of 42. Her family announced her death on September 21 at her home in Massachusetts. The cause of her death has not yet been determined, according to reports from People.
Born on July 6, 1984, in Washington, D.C., Kennedy grew up in Cohasset, Massachusetts. She attended Milton Academy and later earned a bachelor’s degree in history from Georgetown University. Furthering her education, she acquired a master of science in early education from Pace University and a master of education in policy and management from the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
Kennedy embarked on her professional journey with Teach for America, teaching in New York City public schools for two years. This experience fueled her dedication to early childhood education and reform.
Throughout her career, she became an advocate for equitable elementary education and charter schools. Her work included collaborations with education technology companies to enhance curricula and she served as an instructional coach for primary educators.
In addition to her advocacy work, Kennedy was an avid athlete who completed the Boston Marathon in 2019.
In 2020, Kennedy suffered a spinal cord injury leading to long-term paralysis and significant health challenges. She turned her focus to disability rights, even testifying at the Massachusetts State House against healthcare discrimination faced by individuals with disabilities.
Kennedy was predeceased by her father, Michael, in 1997, and her infant daughter, Josie. She is survived by her sons Conor, 12, and Declan, 10, her ex-husband Liam, her mother Victoria, her brother Michael and his family, and her sister Rory and her family.
Funeral services for Kennedy were held privately.
