During Monday’s OutKick meeting, a question arose: did Michael Robinson make the worst sports prediction in history? The incident occurred on NFL Network when Robinson, a former fullback, suggested Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts was faking an injury to avoid blame for the team’s poor performance.
Robinson commented, “He’s pulling himself out, so this doesn’t look like it’s on me.” At the time, Hurts was playing against the Los Angeles Rams. The Rams won 24-20 in Philadelphia on October 4, 2026.

Hurts suffered a calf injury during the game. Days later, an ultrasound detected a superficial blood clot. Despite this, Hurts played against the Jaguars in London. However, due to the risks, doctors stayed on alert. The Eagles later announced he would miss the next game against the Panthers.
Robinson stated, “If I’m Jalen Hurts or anybody in his camp, I’m saying ‘if everybody is hurt, then I’m hurt, too’,” highlighting other injuries within the Eagles’ squad. He suggested viewers “Google ‘superficial blood clot’ as opposed to a real blood clot.”
It turned out Hurts’ condition was more severe. Doctors discovered blood clots in his lungs, ruling him out for the remainder of the season. With this revelation, Robinson’s broadcasting career came into question, although he issued a public apology.
“I want to sincerely apologize to Jalen Hurts, his family, and the Eagles organization and fans for my comments last Thursday. They were unfounded, and I should not have speculated on a player’s health or dedication to the team.”
This apology was essential. Suggesting an athlete exaggerates an injury for personal reasons is a serious error in judgment. If Robinson had been right, it might have been a temporary advantage. However, the inaccuracy tarnished his reputation.

Critics argue there have been other poor sports opinions without lasting harm to careers. In 2016, Max Kellerman claimed Tom Brady would “fall off a cliff,” yet Brady won three more Super Bowls. In 2014, Skip Bayless predicted Johnny Manziel would outshine LeBron James in Cleveland. Many forecasts, like Bill Plaschke’s Rams prediction last month, proved wrong yet caused no character attacks.
Robinson’s remark is different. It questioned Hurts’ integrity. Though reckless, one mistake should not overshadow Robinson’s career achievements. Some call for his removal, but it’s unlikely.

This incident will likely linger for Robinson longer than any apology can erase. Speculation fades, but unjust accusations persist.
