Snakeaholic, also known as Kevin Pavlidis, collaborated with the Proyectos Retic team in Puerto Rico to catch a remarkable reticulated python. This snake, spanning 18 feet 4 inches, is the longest live reticulated python ever captured in the area.
The capture occurred at El Hippie waterfall in Naguabo after the python was seen strangling a pet cat behind a house. Its sheer size required eight people to lift it shoulder-to-shoulder, highlighting the scale of the challenge.
There is no confirmation regarding the fate of the cat. Snakeaholic prioritized capturing the python, an invasive species in Puerto Rico. This species has been problematic much like the Burmese pythons in Florida.
Snakeaholic shared the effort behind tracking the python, describing using his tracking skills and spending 20 minutes locating it in the jungle. He expressed pride in aiding the conservation work by removing this apex predator, aiming to restore Puerto Rico’s ecosystem balance.
In another post, Snakeaholic acknowledged the significant threat these snakes pose to the environment, emphasizing the need to address this issue caused by human introduction of non-native animals.
