Federal Grand Jury Declines Indictment of Cassidy Hutchinson

2 weeks ago 0

A federal grand jury in Washington, D.C. has opted not to indict former Trump White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson. The Justice Department had pursued criminal charges against her, alleging she provided false statements to Congress in 2022, as confirmed by two sources to Fox News Digital.

The Justice Department’s attempt was linked to accusations that Hutchinson was untruthful to the House committee investigating the events of January 6, 2021, at the Capitol. This bid failed on Tuesday, the sources noted. It remains unknown if federal prosecutors will pursue an indictment further.

Cassidy Hutchinson, once a top aide to former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, became a key witness for the House select committee probing the January 6 riot and President Donald Trump’s challenges to the 2020 election outcome. During a public hearing in June 2022, Hutchinson recounted Trump’s alleged actions on January 6, including claims about an incident in the presidential vehicle, which were later contested by others.

Fox News Digital earlier reported that a federal grand jury in Washington had been examining evidence related to possible false statements by Hutchinson to Congress. A source familiar with the investigation indicated further evidence might soon be presented to the jury, though no final decision on charges had been reached.

A report from the New York Post also confirmed the Justice Department’s focus on Hutchinson for potential false statements to Congress. The grand jury’s choice not to indict does not confirm whether her testimony was accurate. Hutchinson has consistently affirmed her testimony’s accuracy.

Fox News Digital has contacted the Justice Department, along with the offices of Rep. Barry Loudermilk and Rep. Bennie Thompson, for comments.
