Dismissal of Alabama Player Dre Kirkpatrick Jr. Following Legal Issues

1 week ago 0

Alabama defensive back Dre Kirkpatrick Jr. has been removed from the team following his second arrest within a year, as confirmed by coach Kalen DeBoer on Tuesday.

Kirkpatrick’s most recent arrest on Friday involves charges of allegedly harassing and doxxing a University of Alabama police officer. Details from police documents shared by The Athletic reveal that Kirkpatrick reportedly sent the officer a harassing message and posted a Facebook photo featuring the officer’s family with the caption “Dis him?”

Coach DeBoer’s Statement

“After gathering more information on the situation, Dre Kirkpatrick Jr. will no longer be a part of our program,” DeBoer said. “He did not live up to the standards and expectations that I have set for this team and our players.”

Kirkpatrick had previously been arrested in Tuscaloosa on charges including three counts of reckless endangerment, attempting to elude police, and speeding. These incidents led to his suspension for Alabama’s final seven games last season before re-joining the team in the spring. He was also facing a misdemeanor charge for leaving the scene of an accident in June.

Game Participation

Kirkpatrick appeared in all seven games for Alabama this season, recording five tackles. Across his three years on the team, he played in 28 games, achieving 17 tackles and forcing two fumbles. His suspension was enacted prior to Alabama’s win against Texas A&M.

Kirkpatrick is the son of Dre Kirkpatrick, a former Alabama defensive back. His recent legal troubles have resulted in a significant impact on his participation with the Crimson Tide.
