The rally aimed to support WNBA star Sophie Cunningham for her stance in advocating for sex-protected spaces in female sports.

The Women’s National Basketball Players Association (WNBPA) issued a statement praising the diverse experiences and opinions within the league. The statement emphasized justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion as values that unite the Union and protect women’s sports while fostering transformational change. It urged against hate and abuse, stressing the importance of hard conversations without becoming political pawns.

“To everyone who loves this game: The WNBPA represents 200+ individual people with different lived experiences, cultures, lifestyles, and opinions. We embrace justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion. Those are the values that unite this Union and allow it to protect women’s sports while creating transformational change.”

The statement also highlighted the necessity of reporting abusive behavior at games and online, as well as urging elected officials to strengthen Title IX.
