Oregon Ducks quarterback Dante Moore faces a pivotal decision following a concussion that cut his college football season short. Analysts are speculating on his next move, with some suggesting he might return for another year of college play. Moore was projected as a high draft pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. However, he opted to stay at Oregon to gain more experience for professional play. His recent injury and lack of medical clearance have sidelined him while Dylan Raiola takes the field.
College football analyst J.D. Pickell believes Moore could still be a first-round draft candidate if he decides to leave Oregon. Yet, Pickell argues leaving might not be prudent. He explains, “This year was about playing college football to get more experience to be ready to play NFL football, not about draft stock.” This season, Moore participated in full games against opponents like Portland State and USC.
Moore also took on Oklahoma State and Boise State, but “three-ish games” might not be enough preparation for the professional level. According to Pickell, Moore likely feels he needs more development before declaring for the NFL. He noted, “Going pro doesn’t make a ton of sense based on what we know about Dante Moore’s priorities and past decisions.” Moore is known for mature decision-making, and many would be surprised if he chose to enter the draft now.
The 6-foot-3 senior accumulated 926 passing yards and nine touchdowns before his season was interrupted. His standout performance against Boise State included 378 yards and three touchdowns. Moore’s last game was against USC on September 26, after which he was taken to the hospital following a hit from linebacker Desman Stephens.
CBS Sports now ranks Moore as the No. 45 prospect for the 2027 NFL Draft, a drop from earlier projections. This year’s draft featured fewer first-round quarterbacks, but the next one could see multiple candidates, including players from Oklahoma State and Notre Dame. Various teams might need a franchise quarterback due to injuries.
Returning for another college year could bolster Moore’s experience. However, there is a risk of another injury or poor performance. Entering the NFL would let him develop under a professional coaching team and learn from veteran quarterbacks, similar to Alabama’s Ty Simpson drafted by the Rams.
