Apple News Allegedly Biased Against Republican Issues

1 day ago 0

Fox News has reported on claims that Apple News promoted more than 80 stories with negative portrayals of issues important to Republicans during the lead-up to the midterm elections. This analysis was conducted by the Media Research Center (MRC), a conservative watchdog group. The MRC’s study suggested that Apple News did not highlight any positive stories related to Republican priorities.

The study analyzed the top 20 Apple News stories from September 15 to 30, noting that the platform provided an average of five daily stories negatively framing the Republicans’ main policy issues. During the same time, according to the analysis, no positive stories were highlighted regarding Republican priorities on the platform, which is preinstalled on all iPhones in the United States.

David Bozell from the MRC commented, “Apple News ran 84 negative headlines on Republican priorities and zero positive ones. Zero! My dentist finds more good news in a root canal.”

The analysis conducted by MRC staffers identified 117 stories covering GOP-aligned matters, 72% featured negative headlines, and 28% were neutral. None of the headlines framed Republican issues positively.

The Media Research Center specified that Apple News often portrayed immigration with court defeats and sensational stories, the economy with high gas prices, law and order with positive portrayals of police abolition, and other GOP issues in a negative light. These conclusions were based on a list of ten significant Republican priorities identified from recent polls, including immigration, border security, the economy, law and order, reducing government spending, national security, and education.

There has been longstanding criticism of Apple News for an alleged liberal bias, with past reports suggesting that company executives have donated significantly to Democratic campaigns. Despite the appointment of new CEO John Ternus, earlier MRC studies indicated an increase in stories from left-leaning sources during his tenure.

Apple did not provide a comment in response to these allegations.
