Musician Kid Rock shared an amusing story during a recent episode of HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher”. The tale involved a casual golf game with former President Donald Trump and an unexpected phone call with French President Emmanuel Macron.
Kid Rock, whose real name is Robert Ritchie, recounted that during their golf outing, Trump was busy attending to various calls. At one point, Trump handed Kid Rock a phone with Macron on the other end. Kid Rock humorously recalled the scenario where Trump introduced him to Macron with, “Hey, I’m here with the great Kid Rock.” Kid Rock responded to Macron by saying, “I’m from the Paris of the Midwest: Detroit.”
Maher and his audience found the situation amusing, with Maher jesting about how Trump left Macron on the phone with Kid Rock. The episode, featuring other notable personalities like Sen. Ted Cruz and journalist Jim VandeHei, sparked laughter as well as some critique.
Democratic political strategist Kaivon Shroff criticized Maher for his laughter, suggesting it was a performance meant to portray Trump as charming, contrasting how similar situations would be perceived with other political figures.
In another part of the episode, Maher responded to criticism from Trump following their previous White House dinner together, highlighting the mixed reception such political interactions generate.
