Benjamin Karl, aged 40, was impervious to the frigid environment and even lay face down on the snow in jubilation, unconcerned about the cold. This moment encapsulated the peak of his triumph at the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games, held at Livigno Snow Park in Italy.

The exhilarating race saw Karl trailing behind South Korea’s Kim Sang-kyum for much of the final stretch. However, seizing a crucial opportunity as Kim made a mistake, Karl surged past him, clinching the victory with a narrow margin of 0.19 seconds. Bulgaria’s Tervel Zamfirov also claimed a place on the podium, taking home the bronze medal.
