On Election Day, Minnesota voters paid tribute to Alex Pretti and Renee Good, two residents killed by federal officers during a crackdown on immigration. Memorials for them in Minneapolis were covered with “I Voted” stickers. This gesture followed a similar action in Texas, honoring Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, another victim of federal actions.
Alex Pretti, an ICU nurse, and Renee Good, a writer and mother of three, were killed during the Trump administration’s Operation Metro Surge. Voters remembered these individuals as they headed to the polls, with some placing stickers at Pretti’s memorial to honor his memory.
Arne, a former colleague of Pretti, expressed that Pretti was a respected nurse, remarking on the unjustness of his death. Pretti’s family criticized the federal response, accusing officials of misrepresentation. His mother, Susan Pretti, spoke out against the government, condemning their actions as disgraceful.
Renee Good’s family has filed lawsuits against ICE officer Jonathan Ross and other officials involved. Photographs of the memorials circulated on social media, drawing attention to what many feel is at stake in the elections.
“People putting ‘I Voted’ stickers on Alex Pretti’s memorial is exactly the kind of tribute that matters. Not thoughts and prayers. Action,” commented former U.S. Public Delegate Andrew Weinstein.
The tributes served as a reminder of the ongoing impact of federal actions under the Trump administration, prompting calls for accountability and reform. Voters were urged to remember these individuals and the need for change as they cast their ballots.
