2 hours ago 0

An undocumented immigrant, armed with multiple weapons, was apprehended close to the White House on Thursday evening. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security reported that the suspect allegedly informed Secret Service officers about plans to attack President Trump.

The individual, identified as Ronny Yordrix Guanipa Chrinos from Venezuela, faces numerous charges. These include three counts each of unlawful firearm transportation, carrying unregistered firearms, and unregistered ammunition. Additional charges include possession of dangerous weapons, carrying a pistol without a license, unauthorized vehicle use, theft, and receiving stolen property.

According to DHS, Secret Service officers noticed the suspect’s suspicious behavior while parked on Constitution Avenue. They approached him on the 1600 block of Constitution Avenue NW, near the Ellipse. Upon confrontation, he allegedly claimed to have heard voices instructing him to travel to Washington, D.C., to assassinate President Trump.

It was discovered that the suspect’s vehicle was reported stolen. He allegedly admitted that weapons were inside the vehicle. Upon searching, officers recovered three firearms, including a rifle, and numerous rounds of ammunition. DHS released a photo of the confiscated items.

“This is the latest example of Secret Service personnel relying on extensive training and experience to deescalate a volatile situation,” stated Secret Service Director Sean Curran, highlighting the team’s role in neutralizing potential threats.

DHS noted that the suspect entered the United States via Texas in March 2024. Initially detained by U.S. Border Patrol, he was later released. His legal representation status is currently unclear.

Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin praised the Secret Service, stating, “Thanks to our brave Secret Service officers, this illegal alien with three firearms in his vehicle was arrested near the White House before he could harm anyone.”

President Trump has faced multiple assassination attempts since his political career began. Notable incidents include a shooting at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania in July 2024, resulting in one fatality and injuries to Mr. Trump and others. Another serious breach occurred at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, where a gunman was arrested, and a Secret Service officer was injured.
