Michigan Singles Find Love Later in Life

Steve Hartman, a correspondent for CBS News, shares heartwarming stories from unique individuals in his segment ‘On the Road.’ Recently, he reported on an unexpected love story from Bay City, Michigan.

Al Sager, 65, and Susan Guc, 76, both led single lives by choice. Sager, a truck driver, said, “You see relationships sour and it’s like, ‘Nah, I don’t want that.’ I was alone, but I wasn’t lonely.” Guc, a dedicated nurse, echoed a similar sentiment. “If there would be anybody out there, who would I really want? And I was happy with that,” she stated.

Recently, this changed when the two decided to marry, much to their family’s surprise. “We were all just shocked,” admitted a relative. Another added, “I about fell out of my chair. I didn’t expect that.” Guc described their union as “just a fluke.”

Their journey began a few years ago when they both had heart procedures and joined the same cardiac rehab program. Guc noticed Sager while he was on an exercise bike. To catch his attention, she gave him a rock with the word “smile” on it. “Yes, she threw a rock at me to get my attention,” Sager chuckled. “This rock rocked,” Guc added, though she clarified she handed it to him. This gesture intrigued Sager who decided to “look into this more.”

Today, Sager and Guc are happily together, exemplifying that love can find you at any age. “I thought that, but look what happened to me,” Guc shared. Sager agreed, saying, “Oh, absolutely, it’s never too late.”
