President Donald Trump announced he has instructed the Department of Justice to investigate Democratic lawmakers threatening to impeach Attorney General Todd Blanche. This disclosure was made through a Truth Social post on Saturday afternoon, following the Democrats’ substantial victories in the recent midterm elections, where they gained control of both the House and Senate.
Trump stated that Democrats have been intimidating numerous individuals, including the Attorney General, with calls for impeachment and other punishments without justification. This followed the public support for impeachment expressed by House Democrats, Reps. Hank Johnson from Georgia and Deborah Ross from North Carolina.
In a statement made on SiriusXM’s “The Dan Abrams Show,” Johnson argued that Blanche’s actions warrant impeachment, conviction, and removal from office. Ross echoed this sentiment but suggested starting with another official, Hegseth, on the same show.
Trump refuted claims of any “impeachable acts” by Blanche or other administration officials. While he didn’t mention Johnson or Ross by name, he highlighted Sen. Elissa Slotkin from Michigan. Trump alleged Slotkin intended to target young Republicans, referencing remarks she made at the University of Chicago about deterring young people from joining Trump’s administration.
He accused Democrats of threatening Republican donors with imprisonment due to their political support, though he did not specify which donors. Reports indicate that Democrats aim to investigate key Republican donors and corporations after assuming congressional control.
Trump termed these Democratic actions as extortion and stressed that the DOJ should treat them as criminal offenses. He urged for the alleged actions to be thoroughly investigated.
