A devastating accident occurred near Apple’s headquarters in California, claiming the life of a 2-year-old girl, Riley Howard, of San Jose. This tragedy unfolded on Friday, November 6, when the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office responded to a severe traffic collision at the intersection of North Tantau Avenue and Pruneridge Avenue.

Emergency responders found an adult woman and young child with serious injuries upon arrival. Despite efforts to save the child, she succumbed to her injuries at the hospital. The Santa Clara County Office of the Medical Examiner confirmed the child’s identity as Riley Howard. A memorial took place for her later that evening.

The driver of the second vehicle involved, an adult male, suffered minor injuries. He received treatment at a local hospital and was later released. Authorities have since arrested this driver on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter.

This is a heartbreaking tragedy for everyone affected, said Captain Neil Valenzuela of the West Valley Patrol Division. Our thoughts are with the child’s family and loved ones as they navigate an unimaginable loss.

Eyewitness Jarry Pannone, who spoke to ABC 7, described the scene, noting, I heard the crash and watched the car kind of spin around. It was sparking from hitting the curb, I guess.

The investigation into this tragic incident continues as detectives work to uncover all circumstances surrounding the collision. The Sheriff’s Office encourages anyone with information to contact the STARS Team at 408-868-6637.

Apple has not yet commented on the incident.
