Trump Administration Establishes Fund for Jan. 6 Rioters

The recent creation of a fund by the Trump administration, aimed at supporting individuals involved in the January 6 Capitol riots, has added another layer to the event’s ongoing narrative. This act has been seen as President Trump’s attempt to reshape the historical account of that day.

The fund is intended for those who believe they were wronged by federal authorities, including participants in the infamous storming of the Capitol. If every person associated with the January 6 event seeks compensation from this fund, each might receive approximately $1.125 million.

Antony Vo, a participant who initially fled the country to dodge imprisonment, was informed by a fellow pardoned rioter about the fund’s creation. Vo learned that the fund was part of a bigger deal, resulting from President Trump retracting a lawsuit against the Internal Revenue Service. Despite being unaware of the fund’s roots, Vo admits to feeling an array of emotions, including surprise and gratitude. “I’m glad it turned into something that could help people who have been hurting for quite a while now,” Vo stated.

This sentiment mirrors the feelings of many labeled as ‘Jan. 6ers’. They, along with Trump, have consistently argued that being held accountable for their actions during the election certification process was unjust. For some, this fund supports their belief of being victimized by the justice system. Others express shock yet joy at the potential financial compensation.

So many questions, said Enrique Tarrio, the Proud Boys leader, sentenced to 22 years for seditious conspiracy related to the riot. But it’s a good direction.
