Kid Rock began Memorial Day by delivering a heartfelt tribute to those who sacrificed their lives for America. The musician expressed gratitude for their service and reiterated his support for the U.S. military.
“This Memorial Day we are remembering the sacrifice and service of so many who are not with us today. It’s a special day, and we’re thinking of them,” Kid Rock said. “Once again, I wanted to say thank you. God bless all of you for your sacrifice, for your service. Keep on Kid Rockin’ in the free world.”
Known as Robert Ritchie, Kid Rock is closely associated with themes of patriotism. He has performed multiple tours with the United Service Organizations (USO), entertaining troops stationed in Iraq and Afghanistan. His devotion to supporting the troops intensified after meeting sailors who endured an al Qaeda attack on the USS Cole.
“It really started with the bombing of the USS Cole,” he stated. “They were playing my music when that ship got towed out of the harbor, and 17 sailors lost their lives. So, we ended up playing a show in Virginia and giving all that money to those families.”
His ongoing support for U.S. troops has been demanding yet deeply rewarding. Kid Rock expressed pride in these efforts during conversations with Fox News. He has also shown vocal support for former President Donald Trump.
Kid Rock performed at the 2024 Republican National Convention shortly after Trump was shot during a rally. His current tour, “Freedom 250,” highlights themes of American freedom and includes performances with other musicians like Jon Pardi and Big & Rich.
Earlier, Kid Rock became central to a controversy following a video of Apache helicopters flying over his Tennessee residence. The incident led to an Army investigation, ultimately resolved with no punishments or further inquiries. Secretary Pete Hegseth publicly cleared the involved aircrew. A subsequent helicopter ride with Hegseth in Washington, D.C., allowed Rock to further honor service members.
Chief Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell conveyed that Kid Rock’s visit included multiple interactions with troops and video recordings for Memorial Day and America’s 250th birthday.
Kid Rock and Hegseth’s helicopter ride sparked criticism regarding government expenses, but the musician dismissed such concerns. “I’ve been there for our military and stood up,” Rock emphasized during his interview. He underscored his continuous visits to war-torn regions, spending holidays supporting service members.
As Memorial Day is observed nationwide, Kid Rock’s message resonates with the importance of honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
