An Iranian state-affiliated news agency has predicted significant risks for the United States as it resumes military strikes on Iran, coinciding with preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Nour News, linked to Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, stated, “If the United States believes it can control oil prices and reduce gas costs before the World Football Championship, they need to realize that using military pressure and negotiating with Iran simultaneously is a major risk.” The outlet implied that any mistakes could result in former President Trump being a symbol of a costly error, remembered painfully during future World Cups.
The warning follows recent U.S. military actions targeting Iran. On Monday, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) reported hitting missile launch sites and Iranian vessels involved in mining operations. “U.S. forces conducted self-defense strikes in southern Iran today to safeguard our troops from threats posed by Iranian forces,” Captain Tim Hawkins, a CENTCOM spokesman, informed Newsweek. The attacks focused on missile launch sites and boats placing mines.
