The upcoming celebration of America’s 250th anniversary, known as “The Great American State Fair,” has encountered changes in its musical lineup. Several artists withdrew due to the event’s association with former President Donald Trump. In a recent development, Trump will now headline the event, according to organizers.
Trump addressed the situation on his social media platform, Truth Social. He mentioned artists experiencing issues with performing and expressed his intention to step in as a replacement, referring to himself as “the man who some say is the Greatest President in History (THE GOAT!).”
Freedom 250, the group organizing the fair, confirmed Trump’s participation. Their statement highlighted his role in launching the festivities on Wednesday, June 24. Trump’s message on social media referred to a rally on “Wednesday,” though the specific date was not given. This discrepancy was not immediately clarified by the White House.
Danielle Alvarez, a spokesperson for Freedom 250, described the fair’s broader schedule. Spanning June 25 to July 10, the event will feature various exhibits, family-friendly attractions, musical performances, flyovers, and more.
In contrast, Trump criticized the absent artists, suggesting a replacement in the form of a “giant MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN RALLY” rather than maintaining an expensive lineup of performers perceived as unengaging.
Freedom 250 claims a nonpartisan stance, although it was initiated by Trump last year and is managed by a former State Department official from his first term. Artists like Bret Michaels, the Commodores, and Martina McBride withdrew last week. Michaels and others cited misrepresentation about the event’s theme or apprehension about political involvement. McBride expressed on Instagram that the event was initially presented to her as nonpartisan.
Nonetheless, other performers remain on board, such as Flo Rida, Fab Morvan from Milli Vanilli, and Vanilla Ice. Vanilla Ice’s representative mentioned his enthusiasm to participate in celebrating America’s 250th anniversary.
